Lighting a candle this April could provide a year’s worth of water for a family in Madagascar. Every April, or Earth Month, Aveda raises money for clean water initiates through the sale of its Light the Way candle.
Hiatus is highlighting the 2015 Light the Way candle as its April Product of the Month. Every penny of the $12 candle is donated to the Global Greengrants Fund, a non-profit organization that channels high-impact grants to grassroots groups working to solve pressing environmental problems. For Earth Month 2015 Aveda was inspired to share the impact this work has had in the village of Manakara, Madagascar, where more than 5,000 people have benefitted from these grants.
The 2015 Light the Way candle will fill the room with the pure plant and flower aromas including organic vanilla, cinnamon and ylang ylang from Madagascar. The image on this year’s candle packaging was created by children living in Madagascar, who have benefitted from Earth Month water funded projects. Each 100% naturally derived soy candle burns for 27 hours and the candle glass is made from 100% reclaimed beverage bottles.
